Sun Protection Tips
This calculator helps you determine how long you can safely stay in the sun based on:
- Select your location - Different regions have different sun intensity
- Choose current UV index - Check your weather app for this number
- Identify your skin type - From always burns to never burns
- Select your SPF protection - The sunscreen you're using
- Calculate safe time - Get personalized recommendations
Example 1: For UV index 8 with skin type II and SPF 30, safe time might be 20 minutes
Example 2: Same conditions but with skin type V might allow 60+ minutes
The UV Index scale:
- 1-2 (Low) - Minimal protection needed
- 3-5 (Moderate) - Protection recommended
- 6-7 (High) - Protection required
- 8-10 (Very High) - Extra protection needed
- 11+ (Extreme) - Avoid sun exposure
UV levels vary by time of day, season, altitude, and location. The highest UV levels occur around solar noon when the sun is highest in the sky.
